With the beginning of "Denmark Studio" in 1917, "Denmark Studio" was one of the premier Photography Studios of its time. Located in downtown Raleigh in the old Hudson Belk Building on Fayetteville St., James Denmark photographed the people, children, landmarks, and special events of Raleigh while his sister Leonita painted and "colorized" the portraits.

"Denmark Photography" still enjoys a rich history in the Central Raleigh area today. As a fine art portraitist and 3rd generation photographer, James's Grandson Jay continues the photography tradition. Jay approaches each subject holistically, incorporating the elements of composition, lighting, and style with emotional impact, which culminates into the overall presentation. Jay also strives to evoke and capture a natural emotional response from the subject being portrayed.
